Balancing Confidence and Humility [Sales Professional #122]
Scripture
“Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’” — 1 Peter 5:5 (ESV)
Devotional
Sales often celebrates confidence—strong presence, decisive communication, and bold asks. Confidence has value, but without humility, it can quickly slide into arrogance. God doesn’t oppose skill or boldness—but He does oppose pride.
Christlike confidence sounds like:
“I’ll do my best, trusting God with the outcome.”
“Here’s what I know, and here’s what I’m still learning.”
“I’m grateful for the success I’ve experienced.”
Humility doesn’t mean shrinking back or pretending you have nothing to offer. It means remembering that every ability, opportunity, and win is a gift from God. It means being willing to listen, to admit mistakes, and to give others credit.
When you pair strong skill with deep humility, you become the kind of person God delights to pour His grace on.

Do others experience me as confident, humble, arrogant, or hesitant?
Where has pride tried to creep into my work or conversations?
How can I practice humility without denying the gifts God has given me?
Prayer
Father, clothe me with humility. Let my confidence come from You, not from pride in myself. Help me walk boldly yet humbly, giving You glory for every good thing. Amen.
