Going the Extra Mile [Healthcare Professional #47]

Going the Extra Mile [Healthcare Professional #47]

Scripture: “And whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.” — Matthew 5:41 (ESV)

Devotional

Healthcare often requires doing what is necessary—but sometimes God calls you to go beyond what is expected.

Going the extra mile is not about overextending yourself constantly. It is about being willing, when appropriate, to offer more care, more attention, or more effort than what is required.

This may look like taking an extra moment to explain something clearly, checking on a patient again, or assisting a coworker without being asked.

These small acts demonstrate a heart of service.

Jesus taught this principle as a reflection of love and humility. It is a way of showing that your motivation is not obligation, but care.

Going the extra mile can have a profound impact. It communicates value and builds trust.

Look for opportunities to serve beyond expectations—not out of pressure, but out of purpose.

Reflection Questions:

• Do you tend to do only what is required, or go beyond when possible?

• Where might God be prompting you to do more?

Action Step: Look for one opportunity today to go beyond what is expected in serving a patient or coworker.

Prayer

Lord, help me to serve with generosity and willingness. Show me where I can go the extra mile today. Amen.
