Guarding Against Burnout [Attorney #112]

Scripture

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28.

Devotional

The legal profession can be exhausting. Long hours, emotional strain, constant deadlines, and high expectations can gradually wear down your mind, body, and spirit.

Burnout rarely happens all at once. It develops slowly—through chronic stress, neglected rest, and the belief that you must carry everything on your own.

But Jesus offers a different invitation: rest.

Rest is not laziness. It is stewardship. God did not design you for endless striving. He created rhythms of work and renewal because He understands your limits better than you do.

Ignoring exhaustion does not make you stronger. In many cases, it diminishes your effectiveness, clarity, and relationships. Rest allows you to recover perspective and reconnect with God’s presence.

Healthy rhythms are essential for long-term faithfulness. You cannot pour into others continually without allowing God to replenish you.

Your value is not measured by constant productivity. It is grounded in who you are in Christ.

Reflection Questions

• What signs of burnout am I currently experiencing?

• Have I created healthy rhythms of rest and renewal?

Action Step

Take one intentional step today toward healthy rest—pause for prayer, step away briefly, or create margin in your schedule.

Prayer

Father, help me find rest in You. Renew my strength and teach me to live and work with healthy rhythms. Amen.
