Speaking Honestly About Competitors [Sales Professional #64]

Speaking Honestly About Competitors [Sales Professional #64]

Scripture: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” — Proverbs 18:21 (ESV)

Devotional

When prospects mention competitors, it can be tempting to subtly undermine them—highlighting their flaws, questioning their reliability, or exaggerating your superiority. But your words carry spiritual weight. They can bring life or deal out harm.

As a Christian, you are called to truth and love—even when speaking about competitors. That doesn’t mean pretending there are no differences. It means:

• Avoiding exaggeration or slander.

• Acknowledging where a competitor may be strong.

• Focusing on the honest strengths of your own solution rather than tearing others down.

When you refuse to disrespect competitors, you communicate confidence in your offering and trust in God. You also model a different way of doing business—a way that prioritizes integrity over winning at any cost.

Your tongue is not just a sales tool; it is a stewardship before God.

Reflection Questions:

·       How do I typically speak about competitors in front of clients or coworkers?

·       Have I ever exaggerated or misrepresented a competitor to gain an advantage?

·       What would a Christ-honoring approach to this topic look like?

Prayer

Lord, guard my speech when I talk about others in my industry. Help me be honest, fair, and respectful. Let my words bring life and reflect Your character, even in competitive settings. Amen.
