Ecclesiastes 11:4 — “He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.”

Waiting for perfect conditions can become a holy-sounding excuse for passivity. You may delay starting a project, having a needed conversation, or pursuing a new opportunity because you’re “not quite ready” or “the timing isn’t ideal.” While wisdom is important, endless hesitation can keep you from walking in what God has for you.
Ecclesiastes warns that those who stare at the wind and clouds may never act. In other words, if you always wait for absolute certainty, comfort, or guarantees, you’ll miss the harvest. Stewarding initiative means moving forward when you have enough clarity to obey, even if you don’t have every answer.
This is not a call to recklessness, but to faith-filled action. You pray, seek counsel, think carefully—and then, by God’s grace, you sow. You send the email, propose the solution, volunteer to help, or take the next step you believe He’s leading you to take.

Where might you be “observing the wind” instead of sowing in your work or calling?
Is fear of failure or discomfort holding you back from a step of obedience?
What concrete action could you take this week as a response of faith?
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve hidden behind hesitation. Give me wisdom to discern, and courage to act when You are leading. Help me sow in faith instead of waiting endlessly for perfect conditions. Amen.
