Hebrews 11:16 — “But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one.”

Even in a good job, you may feel restless—longing for deeper meaning, fuller justice, richer relationships, or more satisfying work. Some of that longing may be God stirring you toward new opportunities. But some of it is simply the ache for your true home.
Hebrews reminds us that the heroes of faith desired a “better country”—a heavenly one. They lived with a holy restlessness, knowing that no earthly place or role could fully satisfy them. Likewise, your workplace—no matter how healthy—will never be heaven. There will always be some gap between what is and what you long for.
Stewarding your longings means bringing them to God rather than letting them drive you into constant discontent. You can ask, “Lord, are You leading me to change, or are You inviting me to deeper contentment and hope in You?” Either way, your deepest desire is ultimately for Him and His Kingdom.

What dissatisfactions or longings about your work are stirring in you right now?
How can you discern whether those are prompts toward change or reminders of your heavenly home?
How might you anchor your hope more deeply in God rather than in ideal circumstances?
Prayer
Father, You know the longings in my heart for something more. Help me discern when You are leading me to change and when You are calling me to contentment. Above all, fix my hope on the better country You have prepared. Amen.
