Scripture: Proverbs 18:21 — “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”
Devotional
Words are some of the most powerful “tools” you use at work. Emails, conversations, feedback, jokes, meetings—each moment is an opportunity to speak life or inflict harm. Stewardship means recognizing this power and using it wisely.
Careless words can damage trust, crush morale, or spread division. Wise words can clarify, encourage, build bridges, and bring peace. You may not always control the decisions around you, but you can control how you speak about them. Your tone, timing, and truthfulness all matter.
As a follower of Christ, your mouth is meant to reflect His heart. That doesn’t mean you never say hard things, but that you say them in love. When you steward your words—choosing encouragement over sarcasm, truth over spin, and blessing over gossip—you become a life-giver in your workplace.
Reflection Questions:
What patterns do you notice in your speech at work—complaining, gossip, encouragement, sarcasm?
How have your words recently impacted someone—for good or for harm?
What simple change in your speech could help you better steward your tongue?
Prayer
Lord, set a guard over my mouth. Help me use my words to build up, not tear down. Teach me to speak truth with grace, and to reflect Your heart in every conversation. Amen.
