Timing is one of the most challenging and humbling realities in real estate development. You may have the right site, the right concept, and the right team—yet approvals stall, financing hesitates, markets shift, or circumstances change without warning. Development constantly reminds you that progress is rarely linear and control is never complete. Ecclesiastes 3:1 speaks directly into this tension by affirming a truth that developers often feel but struggle to accept: God governs seasons.

Trusting God with timing does not mean abandoning diligence or ignoring urgency. Scripture never calls us to passivity. Instead, it invites us to recognize the limits of our control and the necessity of God’s sovereignty. While you plan carefully, analyze risk, and act decisively, God alone determines when doors open and when they remain closed. What feels like delay to you may be protection, preparation, or redirection in God’s hands.

Impatience often grows out of fear—fear of missing opportunity, fear of losing momentum, fear of falling behind. Yet fear-driven decisions rarely produce faithful outcomes. When you rush ahead of God’s timing, you may secure progress at the cost of peace, integrity, or long-term stability. Scripture repeatedly affirms that waiting on the Lord is not wasted time; it is formative time. Waiting refines discernment, strengthens trust, and exposes whether your confidence rests in strategy or in God.

For the Christian developer, patience becomes an act of worship. It says, “God, I trust You more than I trust my own urgency.” Waiting well requires prayer, humility, and courage—the courage to pause even when others pressure you to push forward. When the season is right, God’s timing brings clarity, alignment, and peace that no forced decision can manufacture.

In development, as in life, God is never late. He works according to His purposes, not your calendar. Trusting His timing allows you to build with confidence rather than anxiety, faith rather than fear.
