Your Desk as an Altar [TDPOW #83]

Your Desk as an Altar [TDPOW #83]

Scripture: Romans 12:1 — “…present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

Devotional

Under the old covenant, worshipers brought sacrifices to the altar—offerings laid down before God. Under the new covenant, you are the sacrifice. Your whole life—mind, body, time, energy, work—is offered to Him as worship.

That means your desk, toolbox, kitchen, classroom, truck, or laptop can become an altar. When you show up with a surrendered heart—“Lord, this day is Yours, these tasks are Yours, this body is Yours”—you present yourself to God right where you are. Worship is not confined to a building; it’s carried in your body into your workplace.

This perspective shifts your question from “What must I get done today?” to “How can I honor God with who I am and what I do today?” The work itself may look the same on the outside, but the purpose behind it has changed. It is no longer just labor; it is a living sacrifice.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What would it look like to treat your workspace as an altar to God?

  2. Are there areas of your work you’ve held back from Him—attitudes, habits, or reactions?

  3. How can you practically “present yourself” to God as you begin your workday?

Prayer

Lord, I present myself to You today as a living sacrifice. Take my mind, my words, my actions, and my work. Make my workplace an altar where I honor and glorify You in all I do. Amen.
