Scripture: “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” — Micah 6:8 (ESV)
Devotional
The legal profession often feels like a battleground—contested facts, adversarial relationships, and mounting pressure to perform. Yet for the Christian attorney, the courtroom is not merely a place of conflict, but a sacred space of calling. You have been invited by God not simply into a job, but into a vocation shaped by His own heart for justice, truth, and mercy.
God is the ultimate Judge—perfect in righteousness, compassionate in mercy, and unwavering in truth. When you step into a courtroom, draft a contract, or counsel a client, you are stepping into a sphere where divine values are deeply relevant. You’re not working apart from God—you’re working under Him and with Him.
Micah 6:8 is not a slogan—it is a summons. As an attorney, you are uniquely positioned to “do justice” through the equitable treatment of others, “love mercy” by tempering power with compassion, and “walk humbly” by remembering your authority is stewardship, not ownership. These are not mere ideals for Sunday—they are daily imperatives for the believer in law.
God does not ask you to leave your faith outside your legal work. He calls you to integrate it—quietly, faithfully, persistently—in the tone you use, the counsel you offer, and the way you represent both clients and truth. Let today be the day you stop seeing your legal work as secular and begin to see it as sacred.
Reflection Questions:
How does your legal work currently reflect God’s call to justice, mercy, and humility?
Are there areas where you've separated your faith from your legal practice?
What would it look like to see your law career as a mission field rather than a career path?
Prayer
Father, thank You for calling me into the legal profession. Teach me to practice law in a way that honors Your justice, embodies Your mercy, and displays humility before others. Help me walk faithfully with You in every courtroom, office, and decision.
This devotional is intended to help you integrate your faith into your daily work and calling. It is not a substitute for personal time with God in Scripture, prayer, and worship, which are essential for knowing Christ, loving Him deeply, and becoming more like Him.
