Psalm 127:1 — “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”
Devotional
Scripture affirms both diligent work and deep dependence on God. Psalm 127 brings them together: people are building, but unless the Lord builds, their labor is empty. The call is not to stop building, but to build with a posture of reliance.
At work, you are responsible to take initiative—plan, act, follow through. But you are not the ultimate builder. God is. When you forget this, you may overwork, over-control, or carry burdens you were never meant to bear. When you remember it, you can give your best while humbly acknowledging that outcomes belong to Him.
Balancing initiative and dependence means praying as you plan, working as you trust, and releasing results into God’s hands. Your labor is no longer a frantic attempt to secure your own future, but a partnership with the One who truly builds.

Prayer
Lord, I want to build what You are building. Keep me from both laziness and self-reliance. Help me work diligently while depending fully on You for strength, wisdom, and results. Amen.
