Scripture: “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2 (ESV)

Devotional

Every client brings a burden. Sometimes it’s a legal one—a complex case or dispute. But often it’s more: fear, grief, shame, confusion, or despair. The weight they carry often goes beyond what is written in pleadings or contracts.

To bear those burdens well is more than customer service—it is Christian compassion.

Paul says that bearing one another’s burdens fulfills the law of Christ. That law is love. And love shows up in how you listen, how you communicate, how you empathize without enabling, how you tell the truth without judgment.

You may not be a counselor or pastor, but you are a person of faith who can reflect Christ in how you serve. It doesn’t mean fixing everything—it means walking with someone through their valley. Sometimes that looks like a patient phone call. Sometimes it’s praying quietly for a client you’ll never see again. Sometimes it’s simply showing up with excellence and presence.

Burden-bearing will cost you time, emotional energy, and comfort. But it will form you into the likeness of Christ—the One who bore your burden to the cross.

Let your legal work be a vessel for this holy task.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Do you see your legal role as one that bears the burdens of others?

  2. How can you set boundaries while still practicing compassion?

  3. Is there a client right now who needs more than just a legal answer?

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for bearing my burdens. Help me see the hidden weight others carry. Give me grace to serve with compassion, and strength to be present even when the work is hard.
