Blessing Those Who Overlook You [TDPOW #180]

Scripture

Luke 14:11 — “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Devotional

Being overlooked—passed over for promotion, left off the email, ignored in meetings—can sting deeply. Everything in you may want to push yourself forward, make sure your contributions are noticed, and demand recognition.

Jesus offers a different path: humility. Take the lower seat, He says, and let God be the one who lifts you up in the right time and way. Humility doesn’t mean you never advocate for fair treatment, but it does mean you resist self-exaltation and trust the Lord with your advancement.

Blessing those who overlook you might mean continuing to serve faithfully, speaking respectfully, and praying for them. This doesn’t erase the pain, but it keeps your heart free from bitterness. In God’s Kingdom, the humble are never truly forgotten.

Reflection Questions

Where have you felt overlooked or unappreciated recently at work?

How have you been tempted to exalt yourself in response?

What would it look like to humble yourself before God and trust Him to lift you up?

Prayer

Father, You see every unseen effort. When I feel overlooked, guard my heart from pride and resentment. Teach me to walk in humility, blessing others and trusting You to honor what You choose, when You choose. Amen.
