Scripture: “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1 (ESV)
Devotional
Real estate development begins with vision—the ability to see what does not yet exist and to bring it into being through planning, coordination, and perseverance. Yet Scripture reminds us that no matter how skilled or experienced we may be, true and lasting success depends on the Lord. Psalm 127:1 does not diminish the work of the builder; it rightly orders it. God does not replace your effort—He establishes it.
From the beginning of Scripture, God reveals Himself as the Master Builder. He forms order from chaos, design from emptiness, and purpose from raw material. When He places humanity in the garden “to work it and keep it,” He invites us into that same creative partnership. As a real estate developer, your work reflects this divine calling. You shape land into places where people live, work, gather, and thrive. This is not merely business—it is stewardship.
Yet the pressures of development can subtly shift your focus. Deadlines, financing, approvals, and risk can tempt you to rely solely on strategy, experience, or control. God’s Word gently re-centers your identity: you are not the ultimate builder—you are a faithful steward working under the guidance of the true Architect. When God is invited into the vision, the timing, and the execution, your labor gains eternal significance.
Calling your work worship begins with surrender. It means committing each project to God, seeking His wisdom before major decisions, and trusting Him when outcomes remain uncertain. When the Lord builds with you, your work becomes more than structures—it becomes testimony.
Reflection Questions:
Do I view my work as something I do for God or something I do with God?
Where am I relying more on control than on trust in the Lord?
How can I intentionally invite God into my current projects?
Prayer
Lord, You are the true Builder and the source of all wisdom. Teach me to depend on You in every phase of my work. May my efforts honor You, serve others, and reflect Your purposes. Establish the work of my hands for Your glory. Amen.
This devotional is intended to help you integrate your faith into your daily work and calling. It is not a substitute for personal time with God in Scripture, prayer, and worship, which are essential for knowing Christ, loving Him deeply, and becoming more like Him.
