Scripture: Psalm 127:2 — “In vain you rise early and stay up late… for He gives to His beloved sleep.”
Devotional
There is a fine line between diligence and striving. Diligence honors God; striving tries to replace Him. God calls you to steward your responsibilities—not to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. He invites you to work faithfully, then rest trustingly.
Overwork often comes from fear: fear of failure, fear of falling behind, fear of disappointing others, or fear of losing control. But fear is a poor motivator for God-honoring work.
Stewardship, on the other hand, is rooted in trust—trust that God provides, guides, and sustains.
When you work diligently and rest peacefully, you declare that God—not your effort—is the source of your security. Rest is not laziness; it is worship. It is a reminder that you serve a God who holds all things together, including your career, resources, and future.
Reflection Questions:
Are there areas of your work where you’ve crossed from stewardship into striving?
What fears may be driving unhealthy work habits?
How can you embrace a healthier rhythm of diligence and rest?
Prayer
Lord, teach me to work with diligence but not to strive anxiously. Help me trust You with every outcome. Give me rest for my body, clarity for my mind, and peace for my heart. Amen.
