Character Beyond Compliance [Commercial Broker #36]

Character Beyond Compliance [Commercial Broker #36]

Scripture: “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” — Proverbs 10:9 (ESV)

Devotional

Legal compliance is important—agency disclosures, licensing laws, fair housing, anti-fraud regulations. But for a follower of Christ, “What can I get away with?” is the wrong question. The higher standard is: “What honors God and reflects His character?”

There will always be loopholes that allow you to do the minimum legally required while still acting in ways that are manipulative, self-serving, or unkind. True character asks, “Even if I can do this, should I?” Walking in integrity isn’t about hugging the line; it’s about pursuing what is right, even when no law demands it.

When you choose character beyond compliance, you walk more securely. You don’t have to keep track of half-truths or wonder when something will be exposed. Your life becomes simpler because it is aligned. That security is a gift from God to those who fear Him more than they fear missing out.

Reflection Questions:

·       Do I ever hide behind “It’s legal” to justify decisions that aren’t fully ethical or loving?

·       What would it look like to aim for God’s standard, not just the industry’s standard, in my daily work?

Prayer

Lord, lift my eyes above mere compliance. Shape my character so that I desire what is right in Your eyes, not just what is permitted by law or culture. Amen.
