"What are you going to do with your life?"
It’s one of the most common—and most overwhelming—questions students face. Whether you’re preparing for college, finishing your degree, or exploring career options, the pressure to choose the “right path” can feel like a heavy burden.

But what if God isn’t just asking you to pick a career… what if He’s calling you to fulfill a purpose?
Career Planning with a Kingdom Perspective
For followers of Christ, choosing a career isn’t just about salary, stability, or prestige—it’s about calling. It’s about aligning your God-given gifts, passions, and values with work that serves others and glorifies Him.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” – Colossians 3:23
Your career is more than a job—it’s a platform for ministry.
Step 1: Shift from “What Do I Want?” to “What Has God Designed Me For?”
Ask yourself:
What gifts has God given me?
What brings me joy and energy when I do it?
What problems in the world break my heart?
God rarely reveals the full picture all at once, but He often guides through your wiring, your experiences, and your burdens. These are clues to your calling.
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” – Romans 12:6
Step 2: Look for Kingdom Opportunities in Every Field
You don’t have to be a pastor or missionary to serve God. Whether you're drawn to business, healthcare, education, the arts, or technology—God can use you there.
Examples of calling at work:
A nurse who prays for patients during rounds
A graphic designer who brings beauty and truth into digital spaces
An engineer who builds sustainable solutions to help underserved communities
Step 3: Trust God with the Journey
You won’t figure it all out today—and that’s okay. God’s will often unfolds one faithful step at a time. Don’t let fear of choosing the “wrong career” paralyze you. Instead, take action, stay in prayer, and listen for His guidance.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and He will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
Step 4: Build a Support System
Surround yourself with people who can help you discern God’s direction. Ask a pastor, mentor, or Christian professional to walk with you through the process. You’re not meant to figure it out alone.
Final Thought: Your Work Matters to God
You were created on purpose, for a purpose. Whether your path leads to a corporate office, a classroom, a studio, or the mission field, God can use your work to reflect His love and transform lives.
Choosing a career is not just about getting a job—it’s about stepping into your calling.
