Choosing Wisdom Over Winning [Attorney #161]

The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason. James 3:17.
Devotional
The legal profession is naturally competitive. Success is often measured through outcomes, arguments won, negotiations completed, and cases resolved favorably. Over time, this environment can quietly create a mindset where winning becomes the highest priority.
But God calls you to something higher than simply winning.
Wisdom asks different questions. Not merely, “Can I win?” but “What is right?” “What is wise?” “What honors God?” Wisdom considers both the outcome and the process used to reach it.
There will be moments when pursuing victory at all costs may damage relationships, compromise integrity, or create unnecessary conflict. In those situations, wisdom invites you to pause and consider the bigger picture.
Winning may produce temporary success, but wisdom produces long-term trust, peace, and credibility.
Jesus consistently demonstrated wisdom rather than self-serving victory. He spoke truth boldly while remaining humble, compassionate, and measured.
As a Christian attorney, your calling is not simply to outperform others. It is to reflect God’s character through the way you work, lead, and make decisions.
True success is not measured only by outcomes, but by faithfulness.

In one challenging situation today, intentionally focus on pursuing wisdom and integrity rather than simply proving yourself right.

Lord, help me pursue wisdom above personal victory. Guide my decisions and attitudes so that my work reflects Your truth and character. Amen.
