Confronting a Culture of Corruption [Real Estate Dev #52]

Corruption can take root quietly. In some development circles, unethical practices become normalized: cash favors, rigged bids, concealed conflicts of interest. What begins as “just how business gets done” can erode the foundation of a company—and a soul. Ephesians 5:11 calls believers not just to avoid darkness, but to expose it.


You may feel the pressure to stay quiet. Speaking up could risk relationships, delay progress, or bring backlash. But silence in the face of wrongdoing is not neutrality—it’s complicity. As a Christian developer, you are called to be a light in dark places. That doesn’t mean being combative or self-righteous. It means being courageous, truthful, and anchored in God’s righteousness.


Start by guarding your own heart. Reject shortcuts. Be honest about past failures. Lead by example. Then, when necessary, speak with wisdom and boldness. Don’t confront out of pride—confront out of love for truth and a desire for things to be made right.


Your courage may not always be applauded. But it will be seen by God. And it may be the very thing that begins to shift the culture around you.

  • What’s holding me back from speaking up?

  • How can I expose wrongdoing in a way that honors Christ?


Prayer

God, give me boldness to stand for what is right. Protect me from fear and apathy. Use my integrity to shine light in dark places. Let truth and grace guide my voice. Amen.
