Courage in Ethical Tension [Banker #22]

Courage in Ethical Tension [Banker #22]

Scripture: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9 (ESV)

Devotional

There will be moments in your banking career when you face ethical tension—situations where the right choice is clear, but difficult to act on.

You may feel pressure from leadership, expectations from clients, or unspoken norms within your organization. Speaking up may feel uncomfortable. Standing firm may feel isolating.

These moments require courage.

Courage is not the absence of fear—it is the willingness to act rightly in the presence of it. And as a follower of Christ, your courage is not rooted in your own strength, but in God’s presence.

You are not alone in these moments. God is with you—guiding, strengthening, and sustaining you as you navigate difficult decisions.

Ethical courage may not always lead to immediate reward. But it always leads to long-term integrity.

And integrity is worth far more than temporary approval.

Today, when you face tension, remember: God is with you. Be strong. Stand firm.

Reflection Questions:

• Where have I experienced ethical tension in my work?

• How do I typically respond in those situations?

• What would it look like to act with courage rooted in faith?

Action Step: If you encounter an uncomfortable situation today, choose to respond with honesty and courage rather than silence.

Prayer

Father, give me courage to stand for what is right. Remind me that You are with me in every situation. Strengthen my faith and my resolve. Amen.
