Discernment in Timing [Real Estate Dev #106]

Discernment in Timing [Real Estate Dev #106]

Scripture

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1

Devotional

Timing can determine the success or failure of a development project. A strong project launched at the wrong time can struggle unnecessarily, while wise timing can create opportunities that would not have existed otherwise.

As a developer, you constantly evaluate timing—market cycles, interest rates, entitlements, construction schedules, tenant demand. Yet beyond market timing, Scripture reminds us that God operates through seasons. Discernment includes recognizing when to move forward, when to wait, and when to let go.

One of the greatest challenges in leadership is resisting the urge to force momentum prematurely. Pressure can tempt you to move ahead before alignment, preparation, or peace are present. But wisdom understands that delay is not always denial. Sometimes God uses waiting to protect, prepare, or redirect.

Discernment in timing requires patience and trust. It means recognizing that not every open door should be rushed through immediately. It also means being willing to act when God provides clarity rather than hesitating indefinitely out of fear.

Jesus consistently operated according to the Father’s timing. He was never rushed by public pressure or driven by impatience. As you follow Him, your leadership can reflect that same steadiness.

God sees the broader picture you cannot fully see. Trusting His timing allows you to lead with greater peace, wisdom, and confidence.

Reflection Questions

  • Where am I feeling pressure to move faster than wisdom allows?

  • Have I mistaken delay for failure instead of possible preparation?

  • What would trusting God’s timing look like in my current season?

Action Step

Identify one decision or project where timing feels uncertain and spend intentional time praying for discernment before pushing ahead.

Prayer

Lord, help me trust Your timing. Give me patience when I need to wait and courage when it is time to move forward. Guide my decisions according to Your wisdom. Amen.
