Encouraging the Discouraged [TDPOW #173]

Scripture

Isaiah 35:3 — “Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.”

Devotional

You may not always know what’s going on in someone’s life outside of work—health issues, family struggles, financial stress, or spiritual battles. But you can often see discouragement in their face, tone, or energy. God calls His people to strengthen the weak and steady the weary.

Encouragement can be simple yet powerful: a sincere “thank you,” a note of appreciation, a reminder of past faithfulness, or a word of hope during a tough project. Sometimes, just asking, “How are you really doing?” and listening with compassion can steady “feeble knees.”

You don’t have to have all the answers. Your role is not to fix, but to strengthen. As you speak life into discouraged hearts, you mirror the God who binds up the brokenhearted and breathes hope into dry bones.

Reflection Questions

Who at work seems especially discouraged or weighed down right now?

What might be draining their “hands” and “knees”—their strength and resolve?

What specific word or act of encouragement can you offer them this week?

Prayer

Lord, open my eyes to the discouraged people around me. Use me to strengthen weak hands and firm feeble knees. Give me words and actions that bring Your comfort and courage into their lives. Amen.
