Reflect & Realign
Scripture: “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” — Colossians 3:3
Devotional
Whether you realize it or not, your work has a subtle way of shaping how you see yourself.
Success can make you feel secure.
Failure can make you feel inadequate.
Recognition can lift you.
Criticism can weigh you down.
Over time, it becomes easy to tie your identity to your role, your performance, or the results you produce.
But this past week offers an opportunity to pause and ask an important question: What has been defining me?
Think back over the last several days. How did you respond when things went well? How did you react when they didn’t? Were your emotions, confidence, or sense of worth tied to what happened in your work?
These responses often reveal where identity has quietly shifted.
God never intended for your work to carry that weight.
Your role is important. Your responsibilities matter. But they were never meant to define who you are. When your identity is rooted in your work, you will constantly feel the pressure to prove yourself, protect your image, or measure your worth by outcomes.
But when your identity is rooted in Christ, everything changes.
You are no longer working to become something—you are working from who you already are.
Reflection helps bring this into clarity. As you look back on your week, allow God to gently reveal where you may have placed your identity in something other than Him. Not to condemn you, but to invite you into something better—something secure, unchanging, and rooted in truth.
Reflection Questions:
When did I feel most confident this week, and what was that confidence rooted in?
When did I feel discouraged or insecure, and why?
Have I been measuring my worth by my performance, results, or others’ opinions?
Where might God be inviting me to shift my identity back to Him?
Action Step: Write down one way you’ve been defining yourself based on your work (success, failure, approval, etc.). Then write a truth from Scripture that redefines your identity in Christ.
Prayer
Lord, reveal where I have allowed my work to define me instead of finding my identity in You. Help me to see myself the way You see me—secure, chosen, and loved. Free me from the pressure to prove my worth through what I do, and anchor my identity fully in Christ. Amen.
