Scripture: “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people.” — Ephesians 6:7 (NIV)
Devotional
Excellence in development is often measured by design quality, timelines, and financial performance. But Scripture reframes excellence as something deeper—it is an act of service. Ephesians 6:7 reminds us that our work is ultimately unto the Lord, which means excellence is not about impressing others, but honoring Him.
When you pursue excellence in your projects, you are serving more than investors or tenants—you are serving every person who will interact with what you build. The family who shops at your center, the employee who works in your office building, the patient who receives care in your facility—all are impacted by the quality of your work.
It’s easy to cut corners when budgets tighten or timelines compress. But excellence requires a different mindset. It asks, “What would best serve the people who will use this space?” rather than “What is the minimum required to complete this deal?”
God is not a God of mediocrity. Creation itself reflects His excellence—intentional, detailed, and purposeful. As someone created in His image, your work becomes a reflection of that same character.
Excellence is not perfection—it is faithfulness. It is giving your best effort, your best thinking, and your best integrity, even when no one is watching.
Reflection Questions:
Where am I tempted to lower my standards for convenience or cost?
How does my work impact the people who will use what I build?
What would excellence look like in my current project?
Prayer
Lord, help me pursue excellence not for recognition, but as an act of service to You and others. Let my work reflect Your character and bring value to those I serve. Amen.
