Excellence Honors God [TDPOW #11]

Scripture: Colossians 3:23 — “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

Devotional

Excellence is not perfection. It’s devotion. It’s doing your best with the attitude that your true audience is God—not your boss, coworkers, clients, or even yourself. When you work “as unto the Lord,” every task becomes worship.

Excellence flows from a heart that wants to honor God. It means showing care, diligence, integrity, and wholehearted effort—not because people are watching, but because God is worthy. Excellence does not demand flawless results; it reflects a faithful spirit.

When you give your best, you reflect God’s character. He is excellent in all He does—creative, careful, intentional, wise. Your excellence shows people what He is like. Even small acts of diligence can speak loudly to a world accustomed to shortcuts and mediocrity.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does excellence look like in your specific work today?

  2. Which task requires extra care or intentionality from you?

  3. How would your attitude shift if you remembered you are ultimately working for the Lord?

Prayer

God, help me pursue excellence in a way that honors You. Remove laziness, distraction, and half-hearted effort. Fill me with a desire to work heartily for You today. Amen.
