Faithful Planning in Changing Markets [Real Estate Dev #184]

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” — Proverbs 16:9.
Devotional
Development plans are built on assumptions.
Population growth. Rental rates. construction costs. absorption. interest rates. tenant demand. capital availability.
But markets rarely remain still.
When circumstances change, some leaders stubbornly defend the original plan. Others abandon strategy too quickly.
Wisdom requires something in between.
Faithful planning means preparing carefully while holding your plans with open hands.
You should build thoughtful strategies based on the best available information. But those strategies must remain adaptable enough to respond when reality changes.
Proverbs reminds us that people make plans while God establishes their steps.
That truth should produce both diligence and humility.
Plan carefully.
But never assume your plan is sovereign.
When the market changes, ask what needs to change with it.
Perhaps a project should be phased differently.
Maybe tenant mix needs revision.
Perhaps financing assumptions need adjustment.
Maybe the wisest decision is to wait.
Adaptability is not lack of conviction. It is recognition that stewardship requires responding to reality rather than protecting yesterday's assumptions.
The goal is not to prove your original plan was correct.
The goal is to remain faithful with the circumstances God has placed before you today.
