Scripture: “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” — 2 Timothy 3:12 (ESV)
Devotional
The practice of law is no stranger to confrontation—whether it’s opposing counsel, intense negotiations, or ideological clashes. But for Christian attorneys, the pressure may go deeper. There are moments when standing firm in your convictions feels costly. When refusing to lie, manipulate, or cut corners invites criticism, exclusion, or lost opportunity. When your faith becomes a source of tension rather than applause.
Paul’s words to Timothy are sobering: faithfulness will bring opposition. This isn’t a flaw in the system—it’s a feature of walking with Christ in a fallen world. To live godly lives in a profession shaped by power, pressure, and pride will inevitably put you at odds with the current. The question is not if you will be tested, but how you will respond when the testing comes.
Will you choose convenience or conviction? Will you bend to fit in or stand to be faithful? True courage is not loud—it’s persistent. It’s the quiet strength to do what is right even when no one else applauds. It’s the firm resolve to please God over pleasing man.
You don’t face this alone. Christ endured greater hostility than you ever will. He is your example and your companion. His Spirit strengthens you to remain faithful when the fire comes. Your role is not to control outcomes, but to cling to obedience. Your reward is not in man’s approval, but in God's enduring presence.
Reflection Questions:
Where in your professional life are you tempted to compromise to avoid pressure?
How do you typically respond when your faith creates tension in your workplace?
What would it look like to embrace suffering for the sake of Christ in your legal calling?
Prayer
Jesus, when I face opposition for following You, give me courage to stand firm. Remind me that You were faithful to the end—and now You walk beside me. Strengthen me to remain true, no matter the cost.
