God as Your Refuge in a Toxic Environment [Sales Professional #149]
Scripture
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1 (ESV)
Devotional
A toxic workplace—marked by dishonesty, constant criticism, gossip, or unethical behavior—can feel like a storm you can’t escape. While you may eventually need to seek a healthier context, there are seasons when God sustains you in the midst of the storm.
In those times, He is your refuge—your safe place when culture is harsh. You can run to Him in prayer during breaks, in your car, on a walk. You can pour out your frustration, grief, and confusion. He is not distant from your daily reality; He is a “very present help” in your trouble.
God may use this season to deepen your dependence on Him, to refine your character, and to make you a contrasting presence of grace and truth. And when the time is right, He can open a door you cannot.
You are not stuck alone in toxicity. You have a refuge who walks into the office with you every day.
Reflection Questions
In what ways does my workplace feel toxic or unsafe?
How have I been coping—with God as my refuge or through unhealthy escapes?
What might it look like to hide in God, practically, during my workday?
Prayer
God, be my refuge and strength in this environment. Help me run to You instead of to bitterness or escape. Protect my heart, and in Your time, lead me where I can best glorify You. Amen.
