Scripture: Psalm 121:8 — “The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.”
Devotional
The commute—driving, riding, walking—can feel like wasted time between “real” parts of your day. Yet God is Lord over your “going out and coming in.” He is present in the car, on the train, in the parking lot, and on the sidewalk.
Your commute can become a sacred transition—a time to prepare your heart for the day or to decompress and reflect when it’s done. You can use those moments to pray for your coworkers, listen to Scripture, worship, process with God, or simply sit quietly with Him.
Instead of viewing your commute as an annoying necessity, you can reimagine it as a daily meeting with the Lord. He watches over your travels, protects you, and walks with you into and out of every workday.
Reflection Questions:
How do you currently experience your commute—frustrating, neutral, or intentional?
What simple practices could help you turn that time into meaningful connection with God?
How might a “commute rhythm” of prayer or reflection change the tone of your day?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for watching over my going out and coming in. Help me use my commute as a time to meet with You—to prepare my heart, lay down my worries, and invite You into my day. Amen.
