Growing Through Constructive Feedback [Accountant #165]

Feedback can be uncomfortable, particularly when you have invested significant effort into your work. Even constructive criticism can initially feel like a judgment of your ability.
But wise professionals learn to separate correction from rejection.
Feedback can reveal blind spots you cannot see yourself. A supervisor may notice a weakness in your communication. A colleague may identify an inefficiency in your process. A client may reveal that something you believed was clear was actually confusing.
Your first instinct may be to explain or defend yourself. Yet growth often begins when you listen before responding.
Scripture repeatedly connects wisdom with the willingness to receive correction. A teachable person recognizes that improvement sometimes comes through uncomfortable conversations.
Not every criticism will be accurate, and wisdom requires discernment. But even poorly delivered feedback may contain something worth considering.
As a Christian accountant, receiving correction graciously also reflects humility. Your identity does not depend on appearing perfect. Because your security is ultimately in Christ, you can acknowledge weaknesses without allowing them to define you.
Feedback becomes valuable when you allow it to refine rather than discourage you.
