Few experiences are as uncomfortable as receiving constructive feedback. Whether it comes from a supervisor, physician, coworker, or mentor, correction can challenge our confidence and expose areas where we need to grow. Yet some of the greatest professional and spiritual growth begins with a willingness to listen.
Scripture consistently teaches that wise people welcome instruction. They understand that correction is not intended to diminish them but to help them become more effective. Pride resists feedback because it views correction as criticism. Humility receives feedback as an opportunity to learn, improve, and better serve others.
Healthcare is constantly changing. New treatments, technologies, and best practices require continual learning. The same attitude should shape our spiritual and professional development. Rather than becoming defensive, ask God to give you a teachable spirit. Every piece of honest feedback has the potential to sharpen your skills, strengthen your relationships, and improve the care you provide.
Remember that your ultimate goal is not proving you already know everything. It is becoming the healthcare professional God is shaping you to be. When you approach correction with humility, you allow Him to use others as instruments of growth in your life.
