Criticism—fair or unfair—can sting. The natural response is to defend yourself harshly, counterattack, or quietly undermine the critic. But Peter calls believers to a radically different response: instead of returning insult for insult, you are to bless.
Blessing doesn’t mean you pretend hurtful words didn’t affect you or that you never clarify misunderstandings. It does mean you refuse to respond with the same sharpness or contempt. You hold your tongue when you want to lash out. You pray for the other person, asking God to work in both your hearts.
At work, this kind of response is disarming. When you handle criticism with humility, discernment, and grace, you show that your security rests not in others’ opinions but in God. Over time, your restraint can soften tension and open doors for more honest, healthy conversations.

Prayer
Lord, You were reviled and did not revile in return. When I face criticism, help me respond with Your Spirit, not my flesh. Give me humility to hear what’s true, grace to forgive what’s unfair, and strength to bless instead of attack. Amen.
