Scripture: “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” — Luke 12:15
Devotional
One of the most subtle dangers in financial advising is the presence of greed—not just in the culture, but sometimes in the client. It may not appear as outright selfishness; it often shows up in obsession with growth, fear of not having enough, or an unwillingness to give.
Jesus’s words are a clear warning: greed can take many forms, and its consequences are spiritual. As an advisor, your role is not to shame—but to shepherd. Ask questions that challenge assumptions. Encourage conversations about legacy, purpose, and generosity.
Help clients see that a full life is not measured by accumulation, but by alignment with God’s purposes.
Sometimes, the best service you can offer is not another strategy—but a heart-level redirection.
Reflection Questions:
How can you gently help clients confront the grip of greed in their planning?
Are there ways greed may be creeping into your own thinking or goals?
What would it look like to model contentment and generosity in your practice?
Prayer
God, guard my heart—and my clients’ hearts—from the grip of greed. Teach us that life is found in You, not in abundance. Let purpose guide our plans, not fear or desire.
