Helping Leaders Face Financial Reality [Accountant #195]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“Faithful are the wounds of a friend.” — Proverbs 27:6.
Devotional
Sometimes serving leadership means telling them something they would rather not hear. Financial results may reveal that a plan is not working, assumptions may be unrealistic, spending may be unsustainable, or a project may be performing far below expectations. When powerful people are involved, the temptation to soften the message excessively can become especially strong.
Faithful service requires truth. Your responsibility is not to make every report encouraging or every meeting comfortable. It is to present reality accurately so that wise decisions can be made. At the same time, how you communicate difficult information matters. Avoid dramatic language designed to embarrass or alarm. Present facts clearly, explain assumptions, acknowledge uncertainty, and when appropriate, help leadership consider constructive options.
Courage and humility belong together. You are not responsible for controlling how someone responds to uncomfortable information, but you are responsible for communicating it honestly and respectfully. Sometimes the accountant who serves an organization best is the person willing to say, graciously and clearly, “We need to look at this.”
Truth may create discomfort in the moment, but avoiding truth usually creates greater difficulty later. Faithful counsel helps leaders face reality while there is still time to respond wisely.
Reflection Questions
Do I hesitate to deliver unwelcome financial information?
What fears influence my communication with leadership?
How can I combine courage with respect?
Action Step
If an important concern needs to be raised, prepare a clear, factual, respectful way to communicate it rather than delaying unnecessarily.
Prayer
Lord, give me courage to communicate difficult truths faithfully. Help me speak with humility, clarity, and genuine concern for those I serve. Amen.
