Scripture: “A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight.” — Proverbs 11:1 (ESV)

Devotional

In development, numbers matter. Budgets, bids, valuations, pro formas—every line item tells a story and sets a trajectory. But Scripture reminds us that how we handle numbers is not just a financial matter—it’s a spiritual one. Proverbs 11:1 doesn’t mince words: dishonest dealings, even small distortions, displease God. But He takes pleasure in honesty, accuracy, and fairness.

Financial integrity is not just about avoiding fraud—it’s about a commitment to truth, clarity, and accountability. Rounding numbers to impress, padding costs for gain, omitting inconvenient estimates—these choices may go unnoticed by others, but not by God. He is watching not only what we report, but why we report it that way.

When you steward finances with honesty, you cultivate trust. Lenders, partners, clients, and teams come to know you as someone whose word is reliable and whose numbers are clean. More importantly, you honor God, who entrusted you with the opportunity to lead and manage what ultimately belongs to Him.

Let your financial practices reflect your faith. Approach every spreadsheet and contract with reverence, knowing that integrity in the details is part of your worship. God delights in just weights—He delights in you when you walk in truth.

Reflection Questions:

  • Are there any areas in my financial reporting or planning where I'm tempted to blur the truth?

  • What habits could reinforce a culture of financial honesty in my business?

  • How does financial integrity reflect my trust in God as my Provider?

Prayer

God, help me to handle every dollar and document with honesty. Let my integrity in financial matters reflect my trust in You, and may I delight You by walking in truth. Amen.
