Honoring Difficult Coworkers [Sales Professional #62]

Scripture: “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” — Romans 12:10 (ESV)



Devotional

Not every coworker is easy to work with. Some may be negative, competitive, critical, or dismissive. Yet Scripture doesn’t qualify its command to love and honor “only if they’re pleasant.” You are called to show honor even when it isn’t reciprocated.


Honoring difficult coworkers doesn’t mean agreeing with everything they do or ignoring real issues. It means:

• Speaking respectfully about them, even when they aren’t present.

• Refusing to retaliate with gossip or sarcasm.

• Recognizing and affirming what they do well.

• Praying for them rather than resenting them.


When you choose honor in a culture of criticism, you mirror Christ, who washed the feet of His disciples—even the one who would betray Him. Your attitude toward difficult people reveals how deeply the gospel has shaped your heart.


Honor is not weakness; it is strength under the rule of Christ.

·       Who is a coworker I find difficult to honor right now?

·       How have I spoken about them in private conversations?

·       What is one practical way I can show them honor this week?


Prayer

Lord, help me honor others, even when it’s hard. Guard my heart from bitterness, and my tongue from criticism. Let my treatment of difficult coworkers reflect Your grace toward me. Amen.
