Scripture: “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.” — Matthew 7:12 (ESV)
Devotional
Deals, deadlines, and dollars can quickly eclipse something essential in development: relationships. From city officials to general contractors, from investors to community members—your work is deeply relational. And how you treat people along the way reveals whether your integrity is situational or sincere. Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:12—often called the Golden Rule—call us back to the heart of ethical behavior: empathy, honor, and consistency.
Integrity in relationships means more than just being polite. It means treating others with the same patience, transparency, and respect you’d hope to receive. It means honoring your word, even when the other party can’t hold you accountable. It means refusing to use people as stepping stones or manipulate them for advantage.
When your relational ethics are shaped by the Gospel, trust grows. People know you’re not just out to win a deal—you’re committed to doing right, even if it costs more or takes longer. This kind of integrity builds long-term partnerships, softens hardened hearts, and points others to the One who modeled sacrificial love.
Don’t let the pressure of projects cause you to forget the people within them. Your work is important—but the way you treat others along the way may matter even more.
Reflection Questions:
Am I treating others as I would want to be treated in this season of work?
Where do I need to repair or restore trust in a relationship?
How does relational integrity reflect my faith?
Prayer
Lord, help me treat every person with honor, compassion, and consistency. Let my integrity be evident in every conversation and relationship. May others see Christ through how I lead and interact. Amen.
