Scripture: “Abstain from every form of evil.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:22 (ESV)
Devotional
Not every ethical decision in sales is black and white. Many situations fall into “gray areas”—how much detail to share, how to frame certain limitations, what to emphasize, and what to leave unsaid. In those moments, the easy question is, “Can I get away with this?” The better question is, “Does this honor Christ?”.
God calls you to avoid not only obvious sin, but also anything that even resembles evil. That means choosing clarity over ambiguity when ambiguity could mislead. It means resisting strategies that technically comply with policy but violate the spirit of honesty and love.
When you’re unsure, ask:
Would I be comfortable if this were fully exposed?
Would I do this if Jesus were physically sitting in on the meeting?
Would this help or harm my witness for Christ?
When you honor God in the gray areas, you build a reputation that shines bright in a world that often cuts corners.
Reflection Questions:
· What gray areas in my role require more wisdom and caution?
· Have I ever justified something because “everyone does it” rather than because it honors God?
· How can I seek God’s guidance more intentionally in borderline situations?
Prayer
Lord, give me discernment in the gray areas. Help me choose what is pleasing to You, not just what I can justify. Let my decisions be marked by purity, honesty, and reverence for You. Amen.
