Integrity When It Costs You [Attorney #81]

Integrity When It Costs You [Attorney #81]

Scripture: “Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.” — Proverbs 16:8

Devotional

There are moments in legal practice when integrity is not just tested—it is costly.

You may face opportunities that promise advancement, recognition, or financial gain but require you to bend your standards. A client may push for a strategy that stretches truth. A situation may invite silence where honesty is needed. In these moments, integrity is no longer theoretical—it becomes a decision.

Scripture reminds us that righteousness is more valuable than gain. That truth cuts against the grain of a profession that often measures success by results, reputation, or revenue.

Choosing integrity may cost you in the short term. It may mean losing an opportunity, disappointing a client, or standing apart from peers. But what you gain is far greater—a clear conscience, a trustworthy reputation, and alignment with God’s character.

Your integrity is not just about what you avoid—it’s about what you pursue. It reflects who you are when the stakes are high and the pressure is real.

In the long run, integrity is never a loss. It is a foundation that cannot be shaken.

Reflection Questions:

• Where am I currently facing a situation that may require a costly decision?

• What would choosing righteousness look like in that situation?

Action Step: If faced with a decision today where integrity is at stake, choose the option that aligns with your values—even if it is less advantageous.

Prayer

Lord, give me strength to choose integrity, even when it costs me. Help me value righteousness above success. Amen.
