Integrity When It Costs You [Real Estate Dev #40]

Scripture: “Who keeps his oath even when it hurts.” — Psalm 15:4b (ESV)

Devotional

There are times when doing the right thing will cost you—money, opportunity, reputation, or comfort. Psalm 15 describes the kind of person who may dwell in God’s presence, and one of the characteristics is striking: they keep their promises, even when it hurts.

You may face situations where backing out of a commitment would save you trouble. Where altering the terms would benefit you. Where silence would protect your interests. But when you choose to honor your word at personal expense, you reflect the character of Christ—who fulfilled His covenant at the greatest cost of all.

Integrity isn’t truly tested until it requires sacrifice. That’s when your motives are revealed, your convictions are refined, and your witness is most visible. People take notice when someone follows through even when it's hard. That kind of consistency is rare—and powerful.

God honors those who walk uprightly. He sees your sacrifice, your obedience, and your courage. And while the cost may feel high today, the reward of a clear conscience and God’s delight is worth far more than temporary relief.

Reflection Questions:

  • Have I ever backed out of a promise when it became difficult?

  • Where is God calling me to keep my word—even at a cost?

  • What does costly integrity reveal about my faith?

Prayer

Lord, give me the courage to walk in integrity when it hurts. Help me honor my word, reflect Your truth, and trust that obedience is always worth the cost. Amen.
