Justice in a Fallen World [Attorney #3]

Scripture: “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” — Amos 5:24 (ESV)

Devotional

Justice is more than a legal outcome—it is a heartbeat of the Kingdom of God. The prophet Amos cried out against injustice cloaked in religious activity. He called for living righteousness, not just professional correctness.

As a Christian attorney, you work in a system built for justice but marred by sin. The laws you uphold may be imperfect. The outcomes you seek may be compromised. Yet God calls you to press forward—not in cynicism, but in covenant faithfulness.

You are not responsible for redeeming the system on your own. But you are responsible for bringing a different spirit into it. You are called to love the justice God loves—justice that protects the weak, rights the wrongs, and refuses to accept corruption as inevitable.

You may not always win the case. But you can always walk in righteousness. Let the pursuit of justice begin not in court filings but in your heart.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does “letting justice roll down” look like in your specific legal role?

  2. How do you respond when outcomes are unjust despite your best effort?

  3. What part of your work do you need to surrender to God’s higher justice?

Prayer

God of justice, let righteousness flow through me today. Where systems are broken, use me as a vessel of Your truth and grace. Strengthen my resolve to stand for what is right—even when it’s costly.
