Scripture: “Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.” — Matthew 5:37 (ESV)
Devotional
In real estate, promises are made daily—“I’ll call you back this afternoon,” “I’ll send that tonight,” “Let me follow up on that tomorrow.” These small commitments shape your professional identity more than you realize.
Keeping your word is one of the simplest and strongest forms of integrity.
Jesus taught that your yes should be yes and your no should be no. In other words: be reliable. Follow through. Do what you say you will do. Don’t overpromise. Don’t commit out of pressure or fear. Don’t use words as quick Band-Aids—use them as covenant-level commitments.
Clients, lenders, inspectors, and other agents all form opinions about you based almost entirely on your consistency. When you keep your word—even in small things—you become a person others trust deeply.
Your reliability reflects God’s faithfulness. He always keeps His promises, and as His representative, you model His character when you keep yours.
Today, let your commitments be clear, honest, and kept.
Reflection Questions:
· Do I keep my commitments promptly and consistently?
· Where do I tend to overpromise?
· What small promise can I intentionally honor today?
Prayer
Lord, form reliability within me. Help my yes be yes and my no be no. Strengthen my integrity so others can trust my word and see Your faithfulness in me. Amen.
