Knowing When to Slow Down [Accountant #164]

Speed can be valuable, especially when deadlines are demanding and responsibilities are numerous. But faster is not always better.
Some decisions require careful thought.
In accounting, haste can create expensive mistakes. A rushed review may overlook an inconsistency. A quick assumption may lead to an incorrect conclusion. An immediate response to a complicated question may create confusion that could have been prevented with additional consideration.
Wisdom knows when urgency is legitimate and when urgency is simply pressure.
Slowing down does not mean becoming inefficient. It means giving important matters the attention they deserve. Sometimes five additional minutes of careful thought can prevent hours of corrective work later.
This principle also applies spiritually. When you constantly rush, you can become less attentive to God's guidance. Your schedule may become so loud that you stop noticing the quiet promptings of wisdom, conviction, or caution.
Jesus was surrounded by urgent needs, yet He was never controlled by hurry. He moved intentionally rather than anxiously.
Your work will sometimes require speed. But when something carries significant consequences, give yourself permission to slow down, think carefully, pray, and proceed wisely.

Identify one important decision or task today and intentionally slow your pace enough to review the facts and assumptions before proceeding.
Prayer
God, give me wisdom to know when to move quickly and when to slow down. Protect me from careless decisions caused by unnecessary haste. Amen.
