Leading with a Servant’s Heart [Real Estate Dev #92]

Scripture

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve…” — Mark 10:45

Devotional

Leadership in development often carries visibility, authority, and influence. Projects move because decisions are made, teams are directed, and vision is established. But Jesus completely redefined leadership. He taught that true leadership is not about status—it is about service.

A servant-hearted developer leads differently. Instead of asking, “How can others help me succeed?” you begin asking, “How can I help others succeed?” This changes the way you interact with your team, contractors, consultants, and partners.

Servant leadership does not weaken authority—it strengthens it. People are far more willing to follow leaders who genuinely care about them. When your leadership is marked by humility, accessibility, and a willingness to serve alongside others, trust grows naturally.

In practical terms, servant leadership may mean taking time to listen carefully, stepping into difficult situations personally instead of delegating everything away, or supporting team members during stressful seasons. It means recognizing that leadership is stewardship, not entitlement.

Jesus had ultimate authority, yet He used it to serve others sacrificially. As His follower, your influence should reflect that same posture. The greatest impact you may have will not come through control, but through service.

Reflection Questions

  • Do I approach leadership primarily through authority or service?

  • How do the people around me experience my leadership?

  • Where can I become more intentional about serving those I lead?

Action Step

Find one practical way today to support or encourage someone working alongside you without expecting recognition in return.

Prayer

Father, teach me to lead with humility and service. Help me use the influence You’ve given me to strengthen and encourage others. Amen.
