Scripture: “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” — Philippians 2:3 (ESV)
Devotional
Leadership is built into the developer’s role. You cast vision, manage risk, coordinate teams, and make decisions that shape communities. But influence brings temptation—to lead from pride, to see yourself as central, or to measure your worth by outcomes. Philippians 2:3 confronts this tendency head-on: leadership rooted in selfish ambition leads to spiritual distortion, but humility creates space for God to work through you.
Christian leadership does not mean denying your authority or pretending you don’t have influence. It means stewarding that influence with a posture of service, recognizing that every opportunity to lead is also an opportunity to reflect Christ. Jesus had ultimate authority—and yet He washed feet. He spoke truth—and yet remained gentle with the vulnerable.
Pride in development can show up subtly: dismissing others’ input, craving credit, or ignoring quiet counsel. But humility listens. It invites feedback. It celebrates others. Humility doesn’t shrink your leadership—it sanctifies it. It allows your team to flourish, your partners to trust you, and your conscience to stay clear even when projects get hard.
The best developers lead with both clarity and compassion. When your leadership is marked by humility, others experience dignity—and you experience freedom from the exhausting pressure to prove yourself.
Reflection Questions:
Where do I feel most tempted to lead from pride or ambition?
How can I intentionally practice humility in my leadership this week?
What would it look like to count others as more significant today?
Prayer
Jesus, make me a humble leader. Strip away pride and self-promotion, and help me reflect Your heart in how I lead others. Let my influence be marked by compassion and faithfulness. Amen.
