Learning to Depend, Not Just Perform [Commercial Broker #27]

Learning to Depend, Not Just Perform [Commercial Broker #27]

Scripture: “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5 (ESV)

Devotional

Commercial real estate attracts driven, capable people—self-starters who take initiative and get things done. Those qualities are valuable, but they can subtly pull you away from dependence on God. You may begin to rely more on your hustle, network, or strategy than on His strength and wisdom.

Jesus’ words are clear: “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” That doesn’t mean your skills are worthless; it means they were never meant to operate independently from Him. When you abide in Christ—regularly drawing near in prayer, Scripture, and trust—He multiplies the fruit of your efforts in ways you could never engineer.

Dependence is not passivity. You still send the proposals, make the calls, and attend the meetings—but with a heart that knows the outcome ultimately rests in God’s hands.

Reflection Questions:

·       Where am I relying primarily on myself instead of depending on God?

·       What might it look like to abide in Christ practically during my workweek?

Prayer

Lord, I confess my tendency to depend on my own strength. Teach me to abide in You and to work from a place of dependence, not self-sufficiency. Amen.
