Scripture: “Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” — James 1:19 (ESV)
Devotional
In sales, talking often feels like the main event—presenting, persuading, answering objections. But Scripture challenges you to be “quick to hear, slow to speak.” Listening is not weakness; it is wisdom. It is also one of the clearest ways to show love.
When you truly listen, you honor the person in front of you. You show that their story, fears, goals, and constraints matter. You’re not just waiting for your turn—you’re seeking to understand. Deep listening uncovers real needs, builds trust, and helps you provide solutions that actually help.
Listening also slows down conflict and miscommunication. It gives space for clarification, empathy, and peace.
Ask God to help you listen with your ears, mind, and heart—like Jesus, who always heard people fully before responding.
Reflection Questions:
· Do I spend more time talking or listening in my client interactions?
· How might better listening improve my relationships and results?
· What specific changes can I make in my next conversation to show that I’m truly listening?
Prayer
Lord, teach me to listen well. Help me slow down, pay attention, and value what others share. Let my listening reflect Your love and create space for trust and understanding. Amen.
