Loving Difficult People Well [Banker #134]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly.” — 1 Peter 4:8.
Devotional
Every banker eventually works with difficult people.
Some clients are demanding. Some coworkers are negative. Some managers communicate poorly. Some people seem impossible to satisfy regardless of how much effort you make.
These relationships can become spiritual testing grounds.
It is easy to demonstrate kindness toward people who appreciate you. Christlike love becomes more visible when kindness is extended to people who test your patience.
Loving difficult people does not require accepting abusive behavior, ignoring poor performance, or abandoning healthy boundaries. It means refusing to allow another person's behavior to determine your character.
You can remain respectful when someone is disrespectful. You can communicate calmly when someone becomes emotional. You can establish boundaries without becoming bitter.
Jesus loved people who misunderstood, criticized, rejected, and opposed Him. His character remained anchored in the Father rather than controlled by the behavior of others.
Ask God to help you see difficult people differently. Behind challenging behavior may be fear, stress, insecurity, pain, or circumstances you know nothing about.
You may never change another person's attitude. But through God's grace, you can choose how you respond.
Reflection Questions
• Who currently tests my patience at work?
• Have I allowed frustration with that person to affect my character?
• What would loving that person wisely look like?
Action Step
Choose one difficult workplace relationship and intentionally respond with patience, respect, and kindness today.
Prayer
Lord, help me love difficult people with wisdom and grace. Protect me from bitterness and teach me to maintain healthy boundaries while still reflecting Your character. Amen.
