In commercial brokerage, it’s easy to mentally rank clients: institutional vs. local, multi-site tenant vs. single-location startup, large portfolio vs. one small building. Bigger often means more prestige and more commission. But in the Kingdom of God, there are no “small” people.
Partiality subtly shapes behavior—you return some calls faster, prepare more thoroughly for certain meetings, or show more patience with “important” clients. Yet every person you serve is equally made in the image of God, whether their deal size is massive or modest. Your willingness to give smaller clients your best effort says a lot about who you really serve—money or Christ.
Loving the “small” client is an act of worship. It reflects Jesus, who gave the same compassion to the forgotten and overlooked as He did to the prominent and powerful. He never treated people as a means to an end.
Faithfulness with “smaller” opportunities often prepares you for larger ones. More importantly, it honors God right now.
Reflection Questions
Do I treat high-revenue clients differently than low-revenue ones—in effort, attitude, or honor?
What would it look like to serve every client as if I were serving Christ Himself?
Prayer
Lord, forgive me where I’ve shown partiality. Help me to serve each client—large or small—with equal dignity, excellence, and love, as unto You. Amen.
