Making Decisions with Incomplete Information [Real Estate Dev #169]
Scripture
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7
Devotional
Developers rarely enjoy complete information.
You make decisions using surveys that may reveal new issues, budgets that will change, schedules that depend on dozens of parties, and market forecasts that cannot guarantee the future.
Eventually, analysis reaches its limit.
The desire for certainty can then become another form of control.
You keep requesting another report, another model, another opinion—not because it will materially change the decision, but because you want assurance no one can provide.
Wisdom requires knowing when you have enough information to decide responsibly.
Faith becomes especially important here.
Walking by faith does not mean abandoning due diligence. It means accepting that human knowledge will always be incomplete.
Ask whether the major risks are understood.
Determine whether critical assumptions have been tested.
Seek appropriate counsel.
Pray.
Then make the best decision you can with what God has provided.
Afterward, resist continually second-guessing yourself simply because uncertainty remains.
You are responsible for faithful judgment.
You are not responsible for omniscience.
Only God sees the entire picture.
Your peace comes from trusting Him with what you could never know in advance.
Reflection Questions
• Do I sometimes delay decisions because I want impossible certainty?
• What information is truly necessary for my current decision?
• Can I trust God with what remains unknown?
Action Step
For one pending decision, separate the information you need from the information you merely wish you had.
Prayer
Lord, give me wisdom to know when I have prepared sufficiently and faith to move without complete certainty. Help me trust You with every unknown beyond my control. Amen.
